Cozy Tips to Make Your Valentine’s Day Flowers Your Own

Valentine’s Day is just a few days away! I wanted to share some cozy tips on how to create beautiful arrangements of your flowers. In my book, Cozy White Cottage Seasons I share 100 cozy tips to take you through each season and Tip 99 is dedicated to Valentine’s Day. I explain that Valentine’s Day is a holiday that I tend to take a minimalist decor approach to. One thing I do look forward to every year is spending the loving holiday with Cope and Jose and of course…lovely Valentine’s Day flowers. For some creating a custom floral arrangement ends at filling a vase with water and placing the flowers inside. However, today I want to share some cozy (easy) tips on how to make your Valentine’s Day Flowers uniquely your own. I want to emphasize that I am no expert in the floral department. I am just sharing what I do and why I love it! Here is a quick arrangement I worked on today to freshen up this space in our home & a few tips I tend to use when getting florals to customize them for our home…

Prep Your Flowers

Consider the health of your flowers so that you can get the most out of their life. Flowers need food, water, and a clean environment. If the flowers that you receive for valentine’s day are missing the little food packet, you can make your own flower food. A basic recipe that I like to follow is 1 qt. of water, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1/2 tablespoon of bleach.

You’re also going to want to cut the ends of your flower stems and an inch or so to allow them to open up and take on water. Make sure you do this every couple of days so they can continue to get nutrients. With this, you will want to change out your water as well and maybe add a little sugar and bleach to continue the longevity.

Your floral arrangements should have all of their lower leaves removed already, but in case they don’t, make sure that you move them to prevent them from growing mold in the water.

Gather Inspiration

I enjoy keeping a folder saved on Pinterest of social media of floral arrangements that I enjoy referring back to for inspiration when I arrange my Valentine’s Day floral arrangements. Saving photos for inspiration to refer back to always helps spark my creativity.

Give your floral arrangement a custom look

Whenever I get an arrangement of flowers, I never take it at face value. The second that I get the arrangement home, I am prepping the flowers to get them ready for display. I’m also thinking about how I want them to look in their vase. By varying the height and placements of the florals in the vase you can create an arrangement that is truly your own creation.

Consider using a unique vase to display your floral arrangement. While I like to go the antique route, consider the shape, size, material, and color of the vase that you choose.

Use a Template

I really enjoy using a flower frog to keep all of my florals in place. While flower frogs are typically made of pottery or glass, you can also create one with items around the house! If you don’t have a flower frog, grab some tape (clear preferably) to great a grid across your vase. This will be easier on creating the arrangement and the unique shape that you want

You know my love for trying to find a way to put a personal touch on a new space or moment like this… add in a quick and easy DIY. Places like Poppy Flowers sell Design kits for you to put your own touch a a small bouquet. Also, to keep the stems in place, using super affordable quick and easy DIY frog with scotch tape.

I hope that these cozy tips help to create a unique Valentine’s Day floral arrangement to enjoy in your home.
