Cozy Cottage Winter Decor – Liz Marie Blog

As we transition from Christmas decor to winter decor here on white cottage farm, I find myself craving a different vibe in each space of our house that is currently not under construction. In some rooms I’m craving simplicity with no winter greens, maybe just a plant or two. But in our front living room I was wanting more of a cozy formal winter look using some of our leftover greens from Christmas & I was really inspired by a handmade sign I got from one of my favorite people I follow on Instagram, Carried Away Antiques. Here is the look that I cam up with for this space this winter…

For winter decor I always think of contrast, tons of textures, greens, wood tones, & lots of natural elements. That is exactly what I did in this space. I first started with a backdrop & that is that black & white sign that I got from Carried Away Antiques recently. l love that this sign could be styled with Christmas decor & transition to winter because it is not holiday specific. That is a tip when. you purchase your Christmas decor, especially the big things! Think of textures & contrast rather than literal Christmas decor so that you can use it longer & save money & storage space.

This front room in 2022 will be going through a lot of changes [hopefully] & just like most of our house, this room is just in a state of in-between as we wait to be able to make it what we want it to be permanently. In the next year we hope to be able to add a wall & some beautiful doors to make this more of a cozy formal sitting room. Another thing that has been on our checklist for 5 years is to finally re-do this fireplace & make it functional. I’m wanting some sort of stone & I would love to make it more of a focal point & of course making it be able to work… I can’t wait for that!

Of course in the mean time we make it cozy in here with what we have. One thing that I did that is not a permeant change, but I had to store it somewhere is move this pine cupboard in the corner here. I hope it shows someone out there that you can put a cabinet in the corner & still make it look cozy. I always want to show that even when your home isn’t “finished” you can make it cozy even in the in-between. It doesn’t have to be “perfect” or exactly like your end vision to be functional & pretty for your in the moment. This room is perfectly cozy for winter.

I hope that this winter living room of ours makes you feel extra cozy today as we leave 2021 & head into 2022. This is the last post of the year & I feel like it was a great place to end because I love this space so much. Thank you so much for visiting the blog today & every day this past year, it means the world to me! See you next year friends! xx
